halloween

On October 31st
An eerie spirit's in the air
It's the only time of the year
People seek out being scared

Haunted houses, horror films
Ghouls and goblins hang from trees
Spooky music, candy corn
Found at Halloween parties

Gone are the days when mama
Dressed as 'Miss Provocative'
The 'Tired as a Mother' look
Is surely not as seductive

Kids pick a certain character
And it never seems to fail
Last-minute costume changes
Have mom cruising town for sales

Trick-or-treating is the peak
It's what the efforts lead up to
Walking swiftly door-to-door
Kids chanting, "Smell my feet!" and "Boo!"

Snack-sized candy is copious
Crammed bucket, bag, or pillowcase
And older kids map out their route
To cover every base

Returning home with all the loot
Masks are stripped off with fatigue
Next, the famous candy dump
Leaving parents with intrigue

Kids sort with a smile, then head to bed
And mom and dad get their close-up
With hopes the youngsters overlook
The missing peanut butter cups

Lunch at school, November 1st
Hosts Halloween night's finest goods
Kids brag about full chocolate bars
And where they came from in the hood

Hard to believe that we must wait
Another whole three-sixty-five
For the kid's most favourite night
When spooky spirits come alive
