what's for dinner?
Day in, day out, mom doles out food
Breakfast, lunch, a million snacks
By the time the crew needs dinner
Her menu circuit feels attacked
The last thing mom wants to think about
Is making another ducking meal
Which is why takeout and delivery
Have earned such great appeal
Here we are, late in the day
Again, mom just realized
The meat’s still in the freezer
This means, no chance to tenderize
The kids needed refereeing
Which is why she's short on time
To think of something balanced
And so, Chef Mama goes online
Doom-scrolling gets the best of her
Therefore, all she’s done is look
On Instagram and Snapchat
And read reviews about a book
Head back in the game, defrosts protein
Whips up an easy starch
The veggies—a priority
Look at this matriarch!
A tot tugs at her new yoga pants
As she tosses the cuisine
Mom tries to dodge gross fingers
An attempt to keep her knickers clean
Daddy’s home, yay, finally
As he’s handed the little one
”Hello dear, fetch you a beer?”
Kidding! Dad's work has just begun
Cut their food and grab their drinks
Then get them to the table
Don’t forget the condiments
Tuck their seats, too, if you’re able
Mom did it; the crew is ready
To eat dinner as a fam
Pleased with herself until she hears
“I want peanut butter and jam!”
